NRDC: Natural Resources Defense Council

As a member of Surfrider, World Wildlife Fund and Oceana, I am very concerned and in touch with everything going on with our environment, or at least I try to be!

One website that is a great source of information is the Natural Resources Defense Council’s website. The NRDC is one of the most effective environmental action organizations. It gives valuable and accurate information about policies in place, how to make your business more environmentally friendly, ways you can get involved and just facts about the oceans you swim in and the air you breathe.

I was particularly interested in the “Testing the Waters” report, listing local beaches and how they fared against NRDC’s star-criteria, which rewards beaches based on how often they meet/don’t meet health standards. How did YOUR beach rank?

NRDC also has a separate website called It’s Your Nature geared towards younger people looking to get involved and learn more about our environment and the natural resources we rely on every day. Pairing art, music and celebrities, this “hipper” NRDC website will hopefully continue educating the next generations to come!

Go ahead and get educated!

Happy Hump Day!

Another Gorgeous Day

Waking up to another gorgeous summer day with a perfect breeze and blue skies, I decided today’s post would be a simple dedication to my favorite season and all the happiness it brings me.

*I'm turning off a real life drive and that's right I'm hitting easy street on mud tires* - Jason Aldean

*Morning found us calmly unaware, noon burn gold into our hair, at night, we swim the laughin' sea, when summer's gone, where will we be* - The Doors

*The summer wind, came blowin’ in, from across the sea It lingered there, so warm and fair, to walk with me* - Frank Sinatra

*let's get lost*

Happy Friday – Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! ♥

Website Wednesday – Surfrider.org

This Wednesday I’m featuring a website that isn’t just fun to look at, but is also informative and actively helping the waters of the world.

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting our world’s waters and beaches. It was founded in 1984 by a bunch of surfers in Malibu who didn’t want their surf continually destroyed or taken away. There are now more than 50,000 members and 90 chapters worldwide.

Surfrider Foundation Mission Statement

You don’t have to be a surfer to appreciate the efforts this foundation has taken in cleaning the water, securing the water for its inhabitants, and preserving the beaches. At their website, you can find out all about the cleanliness of the water you’re drinking, endangered ocean species, the efforts they’re taking, and the battles they have won.

If nothing else, there is always amazing photography showcased, with stunning images of ocean animals and surfers playing tag with the waves.
