Music Mondays – Country Duets

This Music Monday, in honor of the final two American Idol contestants both being country singers and loving every duet they did together; I decided to share my favorite country duets. Some heartache, some passion and a whole lot of twang. Happy Listening ♥

Tim McGraw & Faith Hill – It’s Your Love
*It’s your love,
It just does something to me,
It sends a shock right through me,
I can’t get enough and if you wonder
About the spell I’m under, oh, it’s your love*

Carrie Underwood & Randy Travis – I Told You So
*If I told you that I realized you’re all I ever wanted
And it’s killing me to be so far away,
Would you tell me that you love me too and would we cry together
Or would you simply laugh at me and say
I told you so, oh I told you so
I told you someday you’d come crawling back
And asking me to take you in
I told you so, but you had to go
Now I found somebody new
And you will never break my heart in two again*

Alison Krauss & Brad Paisley – Whiskey Lullaby
*The rumors flew, but nobody knew how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain a way, a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind*

George Strait & Lee Ann Womack – Everything But Quits
*We’ve thrown around goodbyes
Called us off a thousand times
We’ve called it everything but quits
We’ve said some things that hurt
But love’s always had the last word
We’ve called it everything but quits*

Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood – Remind Me
*Remember the airport dropping me off
We were kissing goodbye and we couldn’t stop
I felt bad cause you missed your flight
But that meant we had one more night
Do you remember how it used to be
We’d turn out the lights and didn’t just sleep
Remind me, remind me*

Willie Nelson & Lee Ann Womack – Mendocino County Line
*I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time.
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I’m doin’ fine.
I used to make you happy once upon a time,
But the sun sank west on the Mendocino County Line*

Johnny & June Cash – Long-Legged Guitar Pickin’ Man
*Well I stole the Hope diamond
Hopin’ I could shut your mouth,
But how am I gonna wear it
If I got to hide it out.
Oh you big mouthed woman
You long-legged guitar pickin’ man
But we can work this out
Uh huh, yes mam, I think we can*

Trisha Yearwood & Garth Brooks – In Another’s Eyes
*In another’s eyes
I’m afraid that I can’t see
This picture perfect portrait
That they paint of me
They don’t realize
And I pray they never do
‘Cause every time I look I’m seein’ you
In another’s eyes*

And last but not least, because I’m OBSESSED:

Kelly Clarkson & Jason Aldean – Don’t You Wanna Stay
*Let’s take it slow
I don’t wanna move too fast
I don’t wanna just make a love
I wanna make a love last
When you’re up this high
It’s a sad goodbye
Don’t you wanna stay here a little while?*

Website Wednesday – Good Morning and Good Night

For as long as I can remember, I’d sit and flip through books of quotes, of lyrics, and of inspirational pictures. I am admittedly cheesy and love pictures like below, combining artsy photography and sayings:

So this Website Wednesday I’m featuring a website that is all about cool pictures, tons of quotes, music and videos. Good Morning & Good Night.

Showcasing a plethora of amazing pictures, it’s easy to flip through and want every one for your computer background or even framed on your bedroom wall.

Aside from all the beautiful pictures, Good Morning & Good Night features one of my favorites quotes from one of my favorite books The Perks of Being a Wall Flower, by Stephen Chbosky:

* So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from here. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.* – Stephen Chbosky

Music Mondays – Rain Rain GO AWAY!

This Monday, as it rains outside for another night, (for what feels like a year of rain now), I decided a playlist of rainy songs was in order. Here are some oldies, some newbies, and just a whole lot of rainy lyrics to hopefully add a little something to these dreary days. Stay dry, stay smiling.

Let’s kick it off with some better known / classics:

Grateful Dead – Box of Rain
*Walk into splintered sunlight
inch your way through dead dreams to another land
maybe you’re tired and broken
your tongue is twisted, with words half spoken
and thoughts unclear
what do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through
a box of rain will ease the pain
and love will see you through*

Guns n’ Roses – November Rain ♥one of my favorites
*And when your fears subside
and shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
when there’s no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
we still can find a way
’cause nothing lasts forever
even cold November rain*

Counting Crows – Rain King
*Cause I’ve been there before and I deserve a little more
I belong in the service of the Queen
I belong anywhere but in between
she’s been lying, I’ve been sinking
and I am the Rain King*

Let’s go back to Middle School / High School for a bit:

Garbage – Only Happy When it Rains
*I only smile in the dark
my only comfort is the night gone black
I didn’t accidentally tell you that
I’m only happy when it rains
you’ll get the message by the time I’m through
when I complain about me and you
I’m only happy when it rains*

Blind Melon – No Rain
*I just want someone to say to me
I’ll always be there when you wake
ya know I’d like to keep my cheeks dry today
so stay with me and I’ll have it made
and I don’t understand, why I sleep all day
and I start to complain
that there’s no rain*

Billie Myers – Kiss The Rain
*Kiss the rain, whenever you need me
Kiss the rain, whenever I’m gone too long
If your lips feel lonely and thirsty
Kiss the rain, and wait for the dawn
Keep in mind, we’re under the same sky
And the night’s, as empty for me as for you
If you feel, you can’t wait till morning
Kiss the rain*

Back to the 21st century – here are some new(ish) rainy songs, including of course Adele, with one of my favorite songs to date.

Glee – Singing in the Rain / Umbrella
*I’m singin’ in the rain
Just singin’ in the rain
What a glorious feeling
and I’m happy again
I’m laughing at clouds
So dark , up above
The sun’s in my heart
And I’m ready for love
You can stand under my umbrella*

Paramore – When It Rains
*And when it rains on this side of town
It touches everything
Just say it again and mean it
We don’t miss a thing*

Adele – Set Fire to The Rain
*I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name
I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well I felt something die
‘Cause I knew that there was the last time, the last time*

Happy Listening ♥♥♥♥

Flip Flop Fridays – Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down

Lately, I’ve found myself sitting in a bit of a daze, staring at those around me (even more so than normal) and I’ve been writing down all the behaviors I’m noticing. This morning in particular I saw a couple that made me think either: “thumbs up my friend” or “boo, that, thumbs down.” I think a lot of us are too oblivious of our actions, and don’t step outside ourselves enough to help, or notice, or just understand the people or environment around us. Here are some of my thumbs up & thumbs down situations.

~A male teenager left his group of friends to help a shaky elderly woman with a cane cross a street after a taxi almost took her out (yes, I’m generalizing since this is not behavior I often expect or see of teenagers in general, let alone boys)

~A businessman letting the door slam into my hand leaving starbucks, causing me to spill coffee all down my pants and stain my flip-flops

~A construction worker picking up a coffee cup someone threw away and missed the garbage can

~A teenage girl unwrapping her gum and throwing each piece of the wrapper she takes off on the sidewalk without any hesitation

~Watching under cover cops communicate and then pull a drunk man off the subway for being racist and harassing a woman near him

~Having to see teenage boys tighty-whities because they insist on having their pants so low they end up walking like penguins

~A soldier getting up from his table and sitting down with an elderly man sitting by himself in a NYC diner when he sees him struggling with the sugar packet for his coffee

* For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone* – Audrey Hepburn

Thirsty Thursday – The Red Lion

As Summer approaches, I couldn’t help but think of all the places my friends and I spend our summer nights, listening to live music and loving all New York City has to offer. This week’s Thirsty Thursday is what used to be a local spot. SO local for us, we often dodged the cover charge and knew the bouncer’s name. We’re suckers for good food, good happy hour and good live music what can I say?

We’ve seen a lot of great bands here, some really talented cover bands and original artists. Check out their Live Music Schedule and see if you recognize any of your local favs!

You can also watch almost any sporting event you want with their satellite sports channels, ESPECIALLY all the soccer one could hope for.

Or if you’re not a music or sports fanatic, simply come in for some lunch or dinner; they are open for both and have a pretty decent full menu to choose from including some delicious fish & chips!

New Happy Hour Specials Include:
$3 Select Domestic Drafts
$4 Select Domestic Bottles
$5 Well Drinks
$6 martinis
$3 Shot Specials (They’ll tell you what the special shot is)

Music Mondays – Lady Antebellum “Just A Kiss”

Obsessed with their first big single “Need You Now”, I was stoked when Lady Antebellum showcased their new single “Just A Kiss”  on American Idol, and that it lived up to their first album packed with catchy and moving singles like “Ready to Love Again”, “American Honey” and “Hello World”. I always love male – female duets, and with most of their songs falling into that category with heartfelt vocals and lyrics it’s hard not to want to listen to them over and over again.

Here is there new single for everyone else to enjoy, as well as my favorites from their first album. Happy Listening!

Just A Kiss

*Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life*

Need You Now

*Another shot of whiskey can’t stop looking at the door
Wishing you’d come sweeping in the way you did before
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time
It’s a quarter after one I’m a little drunk and I need you now
Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don’t know how I can do without I just need you now*

American Honey

*Get caught in the race of this crazy life
Trying to be everything can make you lose your mind
I just wanna go back in time to American honey*

Ready To Love Again

*Yeah, I’m ready to feel now
No longer am I afraid of the fall down
It must be time to move on now
Without the fear of how it might end
I guess I’m ready to love again*

Website Wednesday – Bored.com

After a bit of a hiatus due to a FABULOUS week in Aruba – let’s kick off the blogging again with a website to provide adequate distractions and amusement while still dreaming of being in a tropical locations versus the office.

Bored.com. I’m sure not a new website to most, especially before things got blocked in high school computer rooms – bored.com has a plethora of ways to distract yourself, procrastinate, and just all around try to kill the boredom and monotony that sometimes happens during the work week.

I picked Bored.com today because astounded at the fact that Maryland doesn’t allow any alcoholic beverage deliveries to homes (i.e. no wine.com presents which I rely on for so much!), I remembered riding in a cab one day and seeing all the other stupid rules states have.

So here are some Dumb and Crazy Laws, by state.

My personal favorites:

*In New York City, it is illegal for a man to give ‘The Standard Lear’ to a woman. Violators are forced to wear horse blinders…where do i get some of these horse blinders?
*In Arizona, hunting camels is prohibited…are there camels in Arizona?
*In California, it is illegal to eat an orange in your bath tub…what about orange slices…in spas?
*In Denver, it is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next door neighbor…I mean…really?
*In Florida, it is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit…a family vacation to the beach would most likely result in a lot of fines for my family
*In Maryland, it’s illegal to take a lion to the movies…but your tigers are apparently ok.
*In Massachusetts, snoring is prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked….I’m actually ok with this one.
*In Minnesota, Minnesotans are forbade from teasing skunks…that’s just common sense I’d think…
*In Pennsylvania, it it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors…just in case you do that often, you might want to stop.
*In Texas, it is legal to commit a homicide as long as you tell the person when, and how you are going to kill them…oh Texas, you make me proud….
*In Wisconsin, it is illegal for women to stand within five feet of a bar while drinking…does..IN count as within?

Be careful…it’s definitely distracting!

Happy Hump Day!
